LaVeta L. Drew-Zerkle, 82, of Princeton, Ind., and formerly of Olney, died at 6:05 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at The Waters of Princeton Convalescent Home in Princeton, Ind.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Father Brant Hazlett officiating.

Burial will be in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens in Olney.

Mrs. Zerkle was born on April 3, 1919, in Pana, the daughter of Roy and Gertie (Scharer) McDonnell.

She married Everette Zerkle on July 7, 1984, in Olney, where they resided until his death on December 30, 1995.

She was a homemaker and mother, in addition to working as a salesperson in a family store which she co-owned, Drew's Radio and Appliance Store in Olney. She also worked at Wabash Area Vocational Enterprises and Mt. Carmel Day Care Center in Mt. Carmel.

Mrs. Zerkle was a hairdresser, owning her own salon for a few years in Robinson. She was also a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant for over 20 years. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Olney Rebecca Lodge and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Zerkle is survived by a son, John H. Drew Sr. and his wife, Shirley, of Olney; four daughters, Jan Drew, of Greeley, Colo., Elaine Hipsher and her husband, John, and Carolyn Peach, of Mt. Carmel, and Judi Hoover and her husband, Don, of Bethlehem, Ga.; three step-sons, Robert Zerkle, of Mascoutah, Richard Zerkle, of Greenwood, Ind., and John Zerkle, of Olney; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dora June Hartl, of Waldo, Fla.; and a brother, Roy McDonnell and his wife, Cookie, of Windsor, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Evelyn McChesney, twin sister, LaVene Haarbart, and a brother, Leslie McConnell.

She was known by all to love life and those she met along the way. The family asks you, in her honor, to join them in the celebration of her life.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or a charity of donor's choice in her name.
