I should receive photos in the future. When I decided to have a memorial for my grand mother my first thoughts were << what to write ? >>

I do not know much about her parents. Her father was a local musician / compositor , her mother a teacher. My grand mother was the only child until 1910 or so. At 3 year old she saved her grand father 's life by giving the alarm when he felt by a fire. When WWI was declared her father decided the family had to move. He knew the area where they lived was to be a fight between France and Germany. He choose a city he thought would be quiet, he had no idea said city was to be the center of intense battles : Verdun. All her life my grand mother remembered the sounds of canons . After WWI she was given a good education in a private school. She stayed there for lunch and was the 1st student in the school history to 1 : complain 2 be on strike because the food was burned all the time. She married young to a man who was of german ancestry. They left for the middle east shortly after. She was abused by him, almost died there . Finally , after years of bad treatments she asked for a divorce. She met my grand father in Lebanon , they left for Syria the same year. My grand father was an army man, he fought for the general De Gaulle , met the armies of Lawrence of Arabia , at the beginning of WWII he told my grand mother he had to go for two days , two days passed then three then four....my grand mother picked the best camels and with a friend looked for him in the desert. Because she could not have children a doctor suggested a treatment that had to be ordered from Egypt. It took few years before she had my father , her only child. She was almost 40 year old .
From the time I was born to my 5th year she was there for me, at 4 I was starting to read, she gave me all the love and care in the world. The bond between us was stronger than mother / daughter. Miles separated us after my 6 th birthday they didn't matter the bond remained.
My grand mother was remembered fondly by friends ( her sister passed away in her early 20' ) as someone with an heart of gold , sincere friend and animal lovers. As for myself I owe her love, education ( she taught me my first words of German at 4 ) understanding and above all love for life.
Thank you everyone for leaving her flowers, those are the only flowers she receives since she was laid to rest too far away from TX. Thank you .
