Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson's parents (Barnes and Amanda) lived on a large farm on Middlebrook Pike and their home was often headquarters to condeferate officer who should be quartered in Knoxville.

She (Elizabeth) and her brothers fitted up a crude hospital in a barn for treatment of sick and wounded.

She was a strong and vigorus girl familar with all the way of the farm. Years later a soldier who had known her as Miss Lizzie wrote of her influence in the hospital located in the old barn.

He recalled how her story of God's Love so thrilled a dying soldier that he waved his hand to other soldiers "Tell them", he cried. She arose trembling and began to speak. The noise and playing ceased as she spoke to them of God's love "Pray". The dying man called and the girl knelt amidst the strange group and prayed for the living and the dying.
