He served as the active head of Washington Manufacturing Company until his death on August 5, 1944. After his death the company was headed by his sons, Mont and Guy Comer. He was buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison, near Nashville, TN.

R. W. Comer Passes
R. W. Comer passed Saturday morning, August 5, after a fight following a major operation, at a local surgical institution. The funeral was conducted from Chapel Avenue Church, Monday afternoon, with N. B. Hardeman as speaker. The building was filled, and the assembly room of the basement, and an overflow crowd was seated and standing outside. Founder of Washington Manufacturing Company, Brother Comer was a successful businessman, and was a heavy contributor to the cause of the Lord.
