Jane was born about 1826, the daughter of James Sweetser and his wife, whose name is unknown. Their surname was also spelled Sweetzer.
She married Joseph Converse Stowell on Nov. 28, 1844 in Peru, Berkshire, Massachusetts.
They had ten children: Almira in 1845, George Washington in 1847, Clinton D. in 1850, Leora J. and Leanna J. (twins) in 1856, Catherine L. in 1858, Ernest Charles in 1860, Alice V. in 1864 and Clara Roena in 1867. Only seven survived past infancy. One child died before it could be named.
Her granddaughter said that Jane was buried in Hartford, but this has not yet been confirmed.
