Lurah was the daughter of Samuel Glover and Martha Francis (Bowman) Williams. Born on the farm she was given the task of working with her crippled father to farm and raise mules. She found time to become an accomplished pianist and could be found playing for her church and personal enjoyment. She married Clyde Green Dixon on Dec 19, 1915 in Weableau, Hickory County, Missouri. They had 9 children: Doris Marie (infant death), Dorothy Lee, Laura Mattie, Helen Elaine (infant death), Lois Maxine, William Eugene, Betty Jean (died at age 6 yrs), Donald Joe, and Joanne. She worked in the home to ensure the family had the necessities on their farm, during the depression, and WW II, taking in washing and ironing, caring for children of neighbors working in the war effort, in addition to canning fruits and vegetables to feed a large family. Frequently, during the war years, her daughters would bring young ladies, who had come to the city to help in the war industries, to the home to live; no one was ever turned away and the home became a virtual dormatory. After the passing of Clyde, Lurah found time to work and play for the Bethany Baptist Church. She was a people person and would go out of her way to meet and visit with other. On her last trip before passing she passed up flying in order to travel by train as she could enjoy the people and scenery better than on a plane.
