Clyde Green "Clyde" was the son of Samuel Carrick and Laura Jackson (Wilhite) Dixon. His mother died when he was 3 yrs old and his father married Mary Francis Stidham to care for his 3 children. In the early 1900's the family moved from Boone County, Missouri to Ashland, Clark County, Kansas where they continued to farm the land. About 1911 his father again moved the family settling on a farm he purchased south of Weableau, Hickory County, Missouri. The farm had been the property of Samuel Glover Williams, father of his wife to be. After a short time on the Williams' Farm, his father sold the property back to Glover Williams in exchange for another farm and properties in the town of Weableau. Clyde graduated from high school in Weableau and married Lurah William Dec 19, 1915. They began married life on a farm west of Weableau on the Hickory - St. Clair County line. Their home was a modest 2 room house to which Clyde added a 3d room (bedroom) as the family began to grow in size. By the early 1920's he found it necessary to sell the farm to his father-in-law and move his family to Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. He and Lurah rented homes around the northeast area of Kansas City for about 20 years before purchasing their 1st city home on North Oakley. Clyde was employed by Sheffield Steel Corporation/Armco Steel for 38 years retiring as foreman of the brick gang responsible for maintaining the open-hearth furnaces. He and Lurah had 9 children: Doris Marie (infant death), Dorothy Lee, Laura Mattie, Helen Elaine (infant death), Lois Maxine, William Eugene, Betty Jean (died at 6 yrs), Donald Joe and Joanne.
