Born Feb. 25, 1926, in Hazard, Ky., he was the son of Boyd and Mary (McLemore) Cornett. He married Nellie Williams and she survives.
He retired as an explosives operator at NWSC Crane and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nellie; his children, Randy Cornett and wife Rachel of Williams, Gaye Chapman of Bedford, Jan Skeen and husband Tom of Williams and Marc Cornett of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Sally Davies of Talladega, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three children in infancy; eight brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Tom East officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Church of Christ Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the mortuary.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends consider memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
