Harry F. Mackes, 81, 185 Clarmont Ave., Stroudsburg, died yesterday in the Cherry Valley Nursing Home.
Born in Saylorsburg, he was a son of the late George and Emma (Lessig) Mackes. He had been in the bridge building and lumbering business for 40 years before retirement in 1946. He served two terms as a Monroe County commissioner, 1932-1940. He was a member of East Stroudsburg Grace Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Mackes, at home; a son, Dr. Claude Mackes, Woodstown, NJ; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Gruver and Florence Mackes, both of Wind Gap, and Mrs. Oscar Balliet, Nazareth; a brother, Clyde, Bethlehem, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lanterman Funeral Home, East Stroudsburg. Viewing 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
