Funeral Services for Martin Harris
Funeral services for William Martin Harris, Sr., 69, of Sandersville who died Thursday, Dec. 31 at Rawlings Sanitarium following a short illness were held here Saturday, Jan 2, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Mayo Funeral Home. The Rev. Wyman Hodges, minister of Tennille Christian Church officiated and was assisted by the Rev. M.C. Ferguson, pastor of Sandersville First Baptist Church.
Mr. Harris, Sr. was born Feb. 9, 1890 in Washington County and was a son of the Col. Richard Ivey Harris and Mrs. Roberta Catherine Martin Harris.
A member of Sandersville First Christian Church, he was a retired farmer. He was married to the former Miss Nina Garner, who survives him.
Other survivors include one son, William Martin Harris, Jr., Hamilton, Ala.; three grandsons, William Martin Harris III, Michael Forrester Harris and Richard Ivey Harris; two sisters, Mrs. R.H. Matthew of Gough and Mrs. T.C. Holmes of Emory University; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Active pall bearers were William Harris III, Michael Harris, Emory Garner, Edward Garner, Harris Matthews and Carroll Holmes.
Honorary pall bearers were Dennis Cox, Warren Hall, T.L. Harris, Roy Hardee, Ralph Godfrey, J.D. Garner, Julian Hall, Lyman Hodges, Jack Jenkins, F.L. Giles, Dan Henry and Fred Braxton.
Interment was in Brownwood Cemetery with Mayo Funeral Home making the arrangements.
