Sadly DiXiE left our 20 acres on the outskirts of Gainesville, Florida following her fearless leader, GaToR. They ended up out onto Highway 41 and DiXiE was struck by a vehicle. GaToR made it back to camp safely but DiXiE was not so lucky. They roamed the 20 acres but had NEVER gone off too far that we knew of and that is why we were not concerned about them roaming the area. If we would have had any idea that GaToR would lead them that far off the property to make it all the way to the highway they would have been chained up or had an electric wire placed on the ground where they wore a special collar that would keep them inside the perimeter. We had already purchased one at the pet store for such an occasion but never felt we needed it. When we would call the dogs they'd always returned fairly quick. My husband, their master buried DiXiE that night on our 20 acres. We go camping up there a few times a year and always visit her grave and leave flowers. She was a precious puppy and loved and missed dearly by her family and especially her by her Master. She really never acted like she cared much for the rest of us but her Master meant the world to her and she meant a great deal to him. The rest of the family looked at GaToR as our family dog because he loved us all and DiXiE only cared about her Master.
