Funeral services were held Friday, August 2, at the Wheeler Grove Church for Mrs. Sarah Viola Houser who passed away July 30, at Griswold (Cass Co.,Ia.) The Rev. Paul Pennington officiated. Burial was in the Macedonia Cemetery.
Music for the service was provided by organist Mrs. James McClain and soloist Mrs. Max Bisbee, who sang "Beyond The Sunset" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Mr. and Mrs. Donald McKenzie and Mr. and Mrs. Guy McClain were in charge of flowers. John Buckingham and Clarence Kindig were ushers.
Grandsons of Mrs. Houser were casket bearers. The McKee. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Sarah Viola Frain daughter of George Henry and Mary Elizabeth Frain was born May 5, 1881 in Grove Township the fourth child of a family of 15. She departed this life July 30, 1974 at the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
She lived her entire life in the Grove community and at an early age she became a member of the Wheeler Grove Church. In 1899 she was united in marriage to Jacob Henry Houser
of Henderson, Iowa and to this union five children were born.
She is survived by four of her children. Lura Armstrong of Weiman, California; Glada Carroll of Des Moines; Lyle of Griswold and Merrill of Carson. Also two brothers, Clarence of Council Bluffs and Ernest of Lincoln, Nebr. as well as 23 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jake, in 1957 and by one son Lawrence in 1922. Four of her sisters and eight of her brothers have also preceded her.
Viola was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and had a host of friends during her lifetime.
A charter member of the Wheeler Grove Ladies Aid and president of this society on two different terms, she always felt joy in her membership with this group.
