Crookston, Minn. — Alphie A.J. Langlois, 88, of Crookston, Minnesota, died early Tuesday morning, February 16, 2010 at the RiverView Hospital in Crookston. Alphie was born to Willie and Clarice (Boisvert) Langlois on January 31, 1922 in Lambert Township, near Oklee, MN. He attended rural schools and worked for area farmers. At the age of 17, Alphie enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Squaw Lake, MN and served for 18 months. In October of 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and inducted into Co. H 405th Regiment of the 102nd Infantry Division serving in Germany. On June 24, 1946, Alphie was united in marriage to Lorraine Perreault at Red Lake Falls, MN and the couple lived for a time in Germany where he continued to serve in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. In 1949, the couple purchased a farm near Gentilly, MN, where together they raised their family and became avid and dedicated in grain and dairy farming for nearly 50 years. Alphie was very active in the community where he served on the Gentilly Dairy Board Association and was the Community Committee man for the USDA for nine years. He supervised the Gentilly Township Board for nearly 20 years. Alphie was a member of the V.F.W., Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Aerie. Sadly, Lorraine passed away on October 19, 2003. Alphie will be remembered fondly by everyone that shared in his life.

Loving family members include three sons, Bill Langlois, Jim (Eileen) Langlois and Rick (Doreen) Langlois, all of Crookston, MN; four daughters, Faye (Earl) Overgaard, Jacalyn Coauette and Peggy (Bruce) Wangen, all of Crookston, and Patty (Garrett) Ous of Grand Rapids, MN; former daughter-in-law, Amy Langlois of Grand Forks, ND; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard (Irene) Langlois of Havre, MT, Lawrence (Madeline) Dufault of Gentilly, MN, Jerome (Mary) Dufault of Bemidji, MN, and Kenneth Dufault of Beaver Bay, MN; sisters, Bernice Spacek of S. Milwaukee, WI, Theresa Chimielewski of Bemidji, Antoinette (Roland) Varin of S. Milwaukee, and Helen (Louie) Pfeffer of Oak Creek, WI; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Besides his loving wife, Lorraine, Alphie was preceded in death by an infant grandson and granddaughter; parents, Willie and Clarice; brothers, George and Raymond; and sisters, Lorraine, Denage and Eleanor.

The funeral service for Alphie Langlois will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, with the Very Rev. Bob Schreiner, presiding. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7:00 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Gentilly, MN.
