Mr. Alger was born July 31, 1925, in Stanley, and was the son of the late Herbert Sheldon Alger and Myrtle Irene Housden Alger.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Stanley VFW Post 7899.
On Nov. 8, 1968, he married Helen Louise Good, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Wanda Good of Timberville; a son, Ronald Alger of Stanley; five sisters, Marie Comer of Shenandoah, Evelyn Harvey and Dorothy Armentrout, both of Stanley, and Jane Nichols and Rachel Ramey, both of Luray; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pastor Frank Painter, the Rev. James Kite and Doug Gochenour will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Independent Bible Church. Burial will be at Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
