After researching the Warfields for over four decades, I have concluded his middle name most likely is Rafer, a common name in the Warfield families from Maryland.

The Rushville Republican, Tuesday, 10 Jul 1894, Pg 4:
"An Old Citizen Dead.
James Warfield died last Saturday monring at six o'clock at his home, north of Manilla, in the sixty-eighth year of his age. He was one of Walker township's best-known and highly-respected citizens. The funeral services took place last Sunday afternoon at the residence at two o'clock, uunder the auspices of Homer Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which he was a member.
Rev. Burch, of Manilla, preached the sermon. The remains were buried in Hurst's graveyard and were followed to the grave by a large number of sympathizing friends. Twenty-five members of Franklin Lodge, I.O.O.F., of this city, attended the funeral. He was an uncle of Taylor Warfield, f this city."
