Violet R. Hoover, 86, died Feb. 14, 2010, at her home at Wesley Towers. She was born May 3, 1923, in Syracuse, to Orville O. and Martha Fischgrabe Atwood.

She married George Hoover in Lamar, Colo. He died March 24, 1962.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1989, coming from Stafford, she retired from Stafford Elementary School, where she was a cook. She belonged to First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.

Survivors include: two sons, Steve Hoover, Harrison, Ark., and Ken Hoover and wife Paulette, Granbury, Texas; daughter, Beverly Tippie and husband Dennis, Hutchinson; two brothers, Omer Atwood, Pueblo, Colo., and Eldon Atwood, Montana; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Bones Nay officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, in care of the mortuary. (From Hutchnews)
