In 1850, Edward Gregg, his wife Nancy, and their children were residents of the 33rd District of Marshall county, Virginia, later named West Virginia, where he is a farmer.
In the mid 1850's Edward & Nancy and family first moved to Iowa where the family appears on the 1856 Iowa State census at Harrison, Lee County, Iowa. Then sometime between that year and 1859, the family moved to Missouri.
In 1860, Edward, his wife Nancy and their children, were residents of Salt River township, Adair county, Missouri, Edward is recorded as a farmer.
In 1870, he is still residing in Adair county along with Matilda Gregg & Andrew Lutes. His post office address is Prairie Bird, Missouri.

After the death of his wife, Nancy, Edward married a second time to Matilda Hymer on July 2, 1865 in Macon County, Missouri.
