"Harry E. Delfs, 79, High street, died of a heart attack Sunday afternoon while visiting in Youngstown. He had suffered from a heart ailment for several years. Born in Canfield, Jan. 19, 1882, he was a son of John and Ida Tanner Delfs. While still in his teens, he went to work for the Buckeye Engine Co. in Salem, where he learned the machinist trade. Later he went to Pittsburgh, where he was employed by the Westinghouse Co. He returned to Canfield in 1910 to become a partner in John Delfs Sons, milling and building supply firm, and continued there until his retirement in 1943. Since his retirement he devoted much time to collecting firearms and to photography, turning out work superior to that of many professionals. He was a member of the Youngstown Photographic Society, Mahoning Valley Camera Club, Canfield Camera Club and the Photogenic Club. His wife, the former Adaline Wiest, whom he married in Pittsburgh, January 24, 1905, died Sept. 21, 1954. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Fred Weeden of Canfield; two sons, Hugh A. of Grosse Point, Mich., and Jack M. of Schenectady, N. Y.; four sisters, Mrs. J. C. Zimmerman of Oberlin; Mrs. Hugh M. Bowman of Ellsworth, and Misses Helena and Edna Delfs of Canfield, a brother, Roy J. Delfs of Canfield, and six grandchildren. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J. Meade Letts, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Williams Funeral Home, and burial made in the Canfield cemetery."

"CANFIELD – Ruth E. Weeden, 94, died at Caprice Health Center on Saturday, Jan. 1. She was born July 8, 1910 in Canfield, a daughter of the late Harry E. and Mary Adeline Wiest Delfs, and was a descendant of the first settlers of Canfield in the Connecticut Western Reserve. In 1892, her great-great-grandfather, Major General Elijah Wadsworth, a veteran of the Revolutionary War, built the house she was born in. This house, a copy of his former home in Litchfield, Conn., was the first two-story frame home built in Canfield and was located on South Broad Street near the Village Green. She graduated from Canfield High School in 1929. She then attended Youngstown College. She worked for 15 years at Farmer's Savings and loan Co, retiring in 1972. Ruth was a founding member of the Junior Wimodaughsis Club of Canfield and remained a member for 40 years, until 1970. She was also a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church. Ruth is survived by two sons, Robert A. Koch and Henry Koch; a step-daughter, Dorothy Weeden three step-sons; Paul, Donald and Norman Weeden; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Weeden, whom she married in 1952 and died in 1977. There were no funeral services. A private memorial was held at the Good Hope Lutheran Church. The funeral was arranged by the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. The family would like to thank all of the staff of caprice Health Care center for their good and loving care. 1-13-05"

"Memorial services were held Sept. 1 at the Scobee-Ireland-Potter Funeral Home in Delray Beach, Fla., for Hugh A. Delfs, 82, formerly of Canfield, who died of cancer Aug. 28 in Delray Beach. He was born Nov. 26, 1912 in Canfield, the son of Harry and Adeline Delfs. He was a 1935 honors graduate of Ohio State University. He was employed by IBM in sales and national accounts management at various locations in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Virginia; and was a national accounts manager for Ford Motor Company in Michigan. He was a longtime resident of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., where he was a member, head usher, and president of the men's club at Grosse Pointe Methodist Church. He was also a past vice president of the Detroit Sales executives Club. In Florida, he was president of the first section of the High Point at Delray Beach Condominium Association for seven years and a board member for 14 years. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, working in the office of procurement and material for the Secretary of the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Emma Neilson Delfs, whom he married Sept. 5, 1936; two sons, Richard E. Delfs of Grosse Pointe Farms and H. Neil Delfs of Altoona, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Weeden of Youngstown; a brother, James M. Delfs of Holmes Beach, Fla. and Lake George, N. Y.; and two grandchildren. The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice by the Sea, Inc., 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, Fla. 33486."
