"JOHN CARPENTER"

"At his home at 223 Thomas street, this city, there died at one o'clock Sunday morning John Carpenter, aged 74 years and a native of New York state. He had been ill about two months. Mr. Carpenter had lived by far the greater part of his life in Wisconsin, where for many years he was a prosperous farmer. He left Wisconsin and went to Jackson, Ala., where he lived a short time before coming to Biloxi about four years ago. While here he had been in the furniture and then in the real estate and rental business. He was a veteran of the civil war, having fought for years for the union cause. Besides a wife, he leaves two sons. A. F. Carpenter of Citronelle, Ala., and Robert Carpenter of Melvin, Ala., and three daughters, Mrs. George Van Vleet and Mrs. Lorenzo Fox of Wisconsin and Mrs. J. O. Ferguson of Biloxi. The funeral was held at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, interment being made in the Biloxi cemetery. Rev. H. W. Van Hook conducted the funeral services."
