The Caldwell family migrated in a covered wagon to Attala County in the 1850's, settling in an area that would be known as Boyette's Crossing located in the southwest section of Attala County. John Marion Caldwell founded the Stump Ridge Church (now referred to as the Stump Bridge Baptist Church). The building also served as a school for a time, during the Civil War John Marion Caldwell served with the 11th Ms Cavalry, Co.C, Wheelers Corps, CSA 1862-1865.
