DEERWOOD - Donald William Abear, age 79, of Deerwood, died on Oct. 19, 2009, at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was born on Dec. 24, 1929, in Trommald to Fred and Chleo (Terry) Abear. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was owner of Don's Construction, Deerwood. He was a retired member of Operating Engineers Local 49 and was a member of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post 557, Deerwood.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Jr. "Bill" (Paulette) Abear, of Deerwood, Robert Abear, of Ironton; two daughters, Nancy (Tom) Hornsby, of Andover, Kimberly (Robert) Johnson, of Waite Park; one brother, Gary (Carol) Abear, of Cleveland, Tenn.; two sisters, Lila Savolinen, of Nashwauk, and Phyllis Melby, of Richfield; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; three brothers, Lawrence, Richard and Douglas Abear; and two sisters, Beverly Michael and Mardelle Avelsgard.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Burial will be at the Deerwood Scandia Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Koop Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
