Gottfried "Fred" was about seven years old when he traveled with his parents from Buhlertal as part of a force emigration of paupers. After arriving in New Orleans in April 1855, his family traveled up the Mississippi River to St. Louis. His obituary appeared in the 11 February 1914 St. Louis Post-Dispatch and reads as follows:
On Monday, February 9,1914, at 10:15 a.m., Fred Liebmann, beloved husband of Mary Liebmann, and our dear father and grandfather.
Funeral on Thursday Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. from the residence 1209 South Seventh Street St. Vincent's Church, thence to Calvary Cemetery.
