James Marvin Abel

James Marvin Abel, 81, of Lexington died of bone cancer on Friday, February 17 at Methodist Hospital of Middle Mississippi.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21 at Harlands Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Richardson officiating. Burial was in Harlands Creek Cemetery with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

A native of Holmes County, he was a retired employee of the State Highway Department and a farmer. He was a member of Harlands Creek Baptist Church.

He and his late wife, Rubena Langford Abel, were foster parents of 54 children throughout the years.

Survivors include: son, Albert Langford of Lexington; daughters, Helen Reynolds of Hamilton, Shirley Burrell of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Gail Robinson of Vacaville, Calif; sister, Katherine High of Jackson; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

Serving as pallbearers were George Reynolds, George Reynolds, Jr., Burt Langford, David High, Ricky Burrell, and Terry Burrell.
