J. S. Abels, 88, dies Sunday in Lexington

Funeral services for Joseph Sephus Abels, 88, who died in the Holmes County Community Hospital Sunday, were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday from Harlands Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in Harlands Creek Cemetery.

A Holmes County native, Mr. Abels was a retired farmer and land owner. He was a member of the Harlands Creek Baptist Church. He had been ill for some time.

Officiating minister was the Reverend Jimmy Jackson, assisted by the Reverend J. H. Burrell. Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ada Dell Abels; four daughters, Mrs. Enie Abels of Thornton, and Mrs. Elma Toler, Mrs. Flora Rogers and Mrs. Katherine High, all of Lexington; four sons, Joe L. Abels of Belzoni, Marvin Abels of Lexington, Clemon Abels of Jackson and Morrie Abels of Lagan, Utah; one sister, Mrs. Mary Rogers of Lexington; forty grandchildren; twenty nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Shelton Rogers, Richard Abel, Roy Abel, Joe C. Abel, Mabry Abel and Kenneth Abel.
