Our beloved mother and "grannie", Erlene M. Dorn, 91 years old, of Levelland, Texas peacefully departed from this life to our heavenly Fathers house on Aug. 5, 2003 in Covenant Lakeside in Lubbock.
She was born May 18, 1912 in Colorado City, Texas to the late John and Sina Ann McCollough. She played basketball for and graduated from Westbrook High School in Westbrook, Texas. Erlene married C.C. (Buck) Dorn on Sept. 14, 1929 in Dorn Community. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1971.
She was a longtime member and pastors wife of the United Methodist Church. In her lifetime she touched many people's lives as she worked as a substitute teacher, waitress, and nurses aid and as a friend.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, J.D. and Cecil McCollough; sisters, Pauline Bethel and Ruthel Hardin; daughter, Billie Wood; grandsons, Soapy Hill and Tony Shaw; granddaughter, Letha Shaw; and great-grandson, Jason Hill.
She is survived by a son, John M. and wife, Kitty Dorn of Borger, Texas; daughters, Wanda Hill of Odessa, Texas, Catherine Leach and husband, Wendell of Lubbock, Vesta Shaw of Colorado City and Liz Hodge and husband, Jesse of Levelland; a sister, Clyde Gafford of Bastrop, Texas; 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren , and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003 at First United Methodist Church in Levelland. Local Services are under direction of Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors. Additional services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003 at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City with the Rev. Ken Northcutt, pastor of New Life Bible Ministries in Colorado City, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in the Dorn Community Cemetery.
