Mrs. A. J. Harmel Dies In Plainview Funeral services for Mrs. A J. Harmel, aged 78 years, 8 months, and 8 days, of Plainview, were conducted at 10:00 o'clock on Saturday morning, Septembr 23, at the Trinity Methodist Church in that city, with Rev. Jim Boswell, pastor of the church, officiating. Mrs. Harmel was the former Miss Clara Mary Oswald, a daughter of the late John Oswald and Mrs. Emma Engels Oswald, of Clifton. Her death occurred at 11:50 o'clock on Thursday morning, September21, at the Plainview Hospital and Clinic following an illness of six months. Interment was made in the Plainvew Cemetery beside her husband, who preceded his wife in death in 1941. Born at Clifton on January 13, 1883, she was married here in 1903 to A. J. Harmel. Mrs. Harmel had lived in Swisher and Hale counties since 1977 when she and her family moved to the South Plains from Megargel. They resided west of Kress until 1923, at which time they moved to a farm south of Plainview. Mrs. Harmel had made her home on Plainview seven years prior to her demise, her address in that city being at 2606 West 10th Street. Mr. Harmel was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Plainview. Left to survive Mrs. Harmel are three sons, Bud Harmel, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Oliver Harmel, of Plainview, and Aubrey, of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Joel Culp, of Plainview, and Mrs. Charles White, of Lubbock; three brothers, Frank Oswald, Walter Oswald, and W. B. Oswald, of Clifton; one sister, Mrs. Ben Harris, of Clifton; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Oswald and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hauke, of this city, were in Plainview last Saturday morning to attend the services for Mrs. Harmel. Mrs. Hauke is a cousin of the deceased.
