Mary Ann Hughes was the daughter of Harrison Hughes and Luverna Petty. She married Hiram Thornton 13 Sep 1864 Douglas Co., IL. She gave birth to 2 children: Ruth Ann (1865-1956) and Dora (1866-1867).

Her daughter, Ruth Ann (1845-1868) married Isaac N. "Bud" Campbell the 11th of Feb 1882 Douglas Co., IL (Vol 1 pg 31). Ruth is buried in the Chesterville Cemetery, Douglas Co., IL. See "Find A Grave" memorial #51503980. Ruth's husband "Bud" Campbell is also buried in the Chesterville Cemetery See "Find A Grave" memorial #51503979.

Her second daughter, Dora, (1866-1867) died in Clearwater, Sedgwick Co., Kansas. Drinking the alkaline water was the cause of Dora's death. After local doctor's warning about the alkaline water Mary Ann and Hiram came back to Illinois. Mary Ann died soon after her arrival back in Illinois.
