Kathryn Mary Reed Brooks, 85, passed away in her home surrounded by her children Monday, June 4, 2001, after a long and courageous fight with cancer.


A native of Portsmouth, she was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.


She was the widow of Carl R. Brooks and was predeceased by her parents, William J. and Julia Nolan Reed; her brothers, William V. Reed, Thomas L. Reed and James E. Reed; her sisters, Ethel Reed Broughton and Julia Theresa Reed Gholson.


She is survived by her daughters, her sons, her grandchildren, sister-in-law, cousins, lifelong friend, a niece and several nephews.


A Catholic Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, with visitation afterward with family and friends.


A Joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph Majewski. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery.
