Born in Daviess Co., Indiana, the seventh of 12 children, she married Andrew James Cunningham 5 May 1874 in Loogootee, Martin, Indiana. They lived and raised their ten children in Barr Township, Daviess, Indiana over 30 years.

In 1905 their daughter Estelle, married to Richard Sanford Patterson, moved to South Dakota. It's said Andrew couldn't stand being so far away from her and on the 12th of September, 1908 he gathered up his family including married son Charles and his wife and children and moved to their new home in Onaka, Faulk, South Dakota.

The two youngest daughters, Bernie and Corrine married in South Dakota but both had moved to Los Angeles County, California by 1923 as had daughter Stella and her family. Andrew died while visiting with his 'girls' in Pasadena, 1924. Mary continued to live in South Dakota and was living with her son Wil in Aberdeen when she departed this world for the next 26 January 1926.
