Over the years, I've exchanged email with lots of Find A Grave volunteers. The experience has always been positive. However, when one speaks of going above and beyond, the name Steph T (#47490241) leaps to my mind.
In pursuit of the photo you see on this memorial, Steph probed the ground where the list said Joe would be and hit stone. Unfortunately, the stone was way down in the ground and Steph didn't have a shovel with her. Seems she's known for digging them up herself.
In an effort to have the stone made visible, Steph submitted a request with Sparta city hall. Their response was that a family member would need to have the stone professionally reset.
So the picture you see is the best to be had at the moment. But, I've got to say, it's not for lack of trying on the part of volunteer Steph.
I plan to do some of this work myself when I retire. I hope I'm just half as curious and diligent as Steph is when she does the job.
