HUNTINGTON - Alex B. Chavez, age 80, passed away June 21, 2006.

He was born Dec. 31, 1925 in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Mike and Flora Rybal Chavez.

Longtime resident of Helper where he retired from Utah Railway with 30 years of service. Alex honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.

He enjoyed fishing, restoring antique vehicles and spending time with his family and friends.

Survived by three daughters and one son, Betty (Bruce) Gates, Las Vegas, Nev.; Alex (Midge) Chavez, North Glen, Colo.; Rose Marie Shearer, Anita (John) Nelson, both of Salt Lake City; companion, Mary Ann Rizzuto, Huntington; brother, Henry (Louise) Chavez, Helper; sister, Carmela Crespin, Martin; six grandchildren, Frank, Anthony, Joey, Jessica, Jason and Richard; great-grandchildren, Isiah and Camden. Preceded in death by parents; grandson, Erik; brothers, Jake, Ralph and Freddy; sisters, Delia, Margaret and Eleanor.
