OBITUARY OF J. LANGLAND

SON OF PIONEER FAMILY LAID TO REST AT URBANA

Jacob B. Langland was born on the old family homestead southwest of Roland, April 13, 1884 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole C. Langland, both of whom passed away a number of years ago, and passed away at Vinton, June 17, 1824, aged 40 years, 2 months and 4 days. On January 1, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Irene Campbell, of Vinton, but after living together for five short years, she passed away on January 8, 1910. On January 18, 1913, he was united in matrimony to Miss Myrtle Sawyer of Vinton. To this union were born three daughters and one son as follows, Bertha Virginia, Ruby LeVon, Leila Margaret, and Donald Martin, the oldest not ten years old and the youngest four years. His wife departed this life, May 15, 1921, leaving the husband to care for the little flock. Rev. Wm. F. Cronk, who three years has worked heroically to visited Mr. Langland during last illness, writes: "Mr Langland for keep all the children with him. Those who know him best speak of his patient toil, and industrious habits of life. For the past ten years he has lived most of the time in Benton county, where he has the record of being a good farmer and a dependable citizen.

He was brought up in the Lutheran faith, and early taught that salvation is alone through Jesus Christ. At a proper age, following biblical instruction, he was confirmed. In his recent sickness he several times expressed his hope through Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. While he was anxious to recover from his lingering illness, for the sake of his children, and others, he was submissive, and planned for his going away. A number of times during the last day of his earthly pilgrimage, a smile came over his countenance indicating pleasant thoughts as he faced the great unknown.

He leaves to mourn his passing a betrothed lady, the four children, two brothers and two sisters, with other relatives and friends. The brothers are John Langland of Radcliffe and Sevrin Langland of Williams. The sisters are Mrs. Ole Holland of Radcliffe, and Mrs. Ole Berven of Landon, N.D., who was unable to attend the funeral. A short service was held at the family residence in the presence of a goodly number of old and new neighbors. The funeral services proper were held in the Christian Church of Urbana, the Rev. Wm. F. Cronk of the United Brethren assisted by Rev. Mr. Griffen of the Christian Church. The body was laid to rest in a nearby cemetery alongside of his wife awaiting the General Resurrection
