Ruth Barker Shelton of Athens, 84, a retired Limestone County teacher, died Monday.
Mrs. Shelton was a member of the Market Street Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She was named Community Education Woman of the Year and American Legion Post 49 Woman of the Year and worked as a teacher for 47 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Edward "Ed" Shelton.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Ruth Duncan and Edria Ann Norton, both of Athens; one sister, Sally Barker Hess of Decatur; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Jack Baldwin, Warren Glass and George Dudley officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
