ST. CHARLES, Minn. –E. A. Messerschmidt, 86, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Russell Cravath, rural Chatfield, after a long illness.
He was born in Quincy Township near here Dec 17, 1875. In 1901 he married Nell Donaldson of Plainview. She died in 1931. In 1938 he married Mrs. Adelaid Cheatham of St. Paul. She died in 1951.
Mr. Messerschmidt served on the Quincy school board 30 years, and was a member of Little Valley Cemetery Board many years. He retired from farming in 1936 and moved to St Charles. He was a resident here until 19l58, when he went to live with his daughter.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Russell Cravath, Chatfield; four sons, Rowan, Kansas City, Mo.; Edwin D., Winona Lake, Ind.; Donald, Jefferson Creek, Wis., and Charles, St. Charles; one sister, Mrs. Eva Towne, Algona, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sellner Gedde Funeral Home, the Rev. Edward Lee Kasson officiating. Burial will be in Little Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after Tuesday noon.
