He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Nels Nelson.
September 18, 1901, he was united in marriage to Anna Otillie Ekdahl. This union was blessed with four children, one daughter and three sons. He was baptized in the Lutheran church in Sweden and was confirmed at the Stockholm Lutheran Church near Shickley, Neb.
The family made its home near Ong, where they were faithful members of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church. In 1929 Mr and Mrs Nelson moved to the Sutton vicinity and transferred their membership to the Saron Lutheran Church, Saronville.
He attended church regularly until his health failed, but continued steadfast in his worship although confined to his bed, received Holy Communion and reading the word of God.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Tillie; one daughter, Irene (Mrs Clinton Peterson) of Shickley; three sons, Wincel of Geneva, Dale and Glen of Aurora; three daughters-in-laws and one son-in-law, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 19 at the Saron Church, Rev Charles Beckingham officiating Mrs Lloyd Hultine was organist.
A trio consisting of three granddaughters, Mrs Gordon Gowen, Mrs Ben Nelson and Shirley Peterson, sang three songs, "In The Garden", "Softly and Tenderly" and "Where E'er I Roam". They were accompanied by Mrs Leland Hultine. Pallbearers were Wincel Nelson Jr., Gordon Gowen, Ben Nelson, Tom Nelson, Marvin Johnson and Dale Everts. Graveside services and burial was in the Ong Cemetery.
