Cecil Ermit Souders, 84, of Sterling, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 in Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with services concluding at the funeral home. The Rev. Derek DeToni-Hill will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3541.

Cecil was born April 25, 1923 to Frank Dave and Nettie (Christner) Souders in Cashion, Okla. He graduated from high school and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Baker Second Class on the USS White Plains. He later worked at the grain elevator as a feedmill operator.

He married Alberta Mae Franklin May 2, 1947, in Sterling.

Cecil was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 3541, and a member of Cooties, Disabled American Veterans No. 34, Senior Citizens and Royal Neighbors.

He will be forever loved an greatly missed by us all.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Alberta of Sterling; sons, Cecil Edward Souders and wife Helen of Sterling, and Dennis Souders and wife Jean of Hutchinson, Kan.; daughter, Louise Jones of Sterling; brothers, Lloyd Souders of Sterling, and Dale Souders of Fort Collins; sisters, Vianna Linnebur of Roggen, Rosalie Hoffman of Rozel, Kan., and Mary Miller of Greeley; grandchildren, Kendra Walter and family of Model, Jenette Hofer and family of Fort Collins, Jeremy Souders of Walden, Jonathon Jones and family of Sterling, and Joshua Souders of Hutchinson, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kimmie, Jacob and Robert Walter of Model, Anna Jones and Dante Kohl of Sterling, and Kylie Hofer of Fort Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son David Souders, brothers Marvin, Wayne and Ray Souders; sisters Dorothy Williams and Linda Baumgartner; and grandson Scott Souders.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Plains.
