Miranda Jane was born to John Henry Burgess and Martha "Patsy" Lawson, one of eleven children, on May 7, 1846, in Portland Mills, Parke Co, Indiana. She came to Eagle Lake, Minnesota in 1856 with her parents when she was 10 years old. She married Gabriel A. Pickle, March 22, 1866 in Mankato, Minnesota, shortly after he received his discharge from the Union Army...They had 14 children. Their first daughter, Carrie, is my great grandmother...According to Miranda's obituary, she is a cousin of Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of Abraham Lincoln and was greatly interested in the nation's affairs during the Civil War days...She and Gabe moved to Long Beach, California in 1921, where they resided until their passing. Miranda passed, February 17, 1932, at the age of 85. She rests in the Burgess Cemetery with Gabriel, and many of her Burgess family members.
