Benjamin Franklin Buck was born March 1843, in Coshocton County, Ohio to Thomas Steele Buck and Eve A. Fisher, both parents were natives of Pennsylvania.

At a later date when Benjamin was still a child he emigrated with his parents and siblings from Ohio to Xenia Township, Clay County, Illinois, where his father purchased land in Section 17, Range SE, Township

Benjamin Franklin was a Private in Company H, of the 51st Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He was killed in battle from wounds received in the Battle at Stones River in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee. He is listed in the information from the "Roll of Honor of Ohio Soldiers."

There is no grave at the cemetery. Conflicting, there is a B. F. Buck (no rank given), Company H, of the 57th Ohio. Volunteer Infantry also listed in the "Roll of Honor of Ohio Soldiers." page 298. His new grave site is #E-2023, his original grave site was on the battlefield and #E-284.

Franklin was 5'10" Tall with a fair complexion, blue eyes and light hair. His occupation before his military service was farmer.
