Alonzo Chaffin died in Gainesville Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of 1406 E. Garnett in Gainesville. He was born to William Jr. and Maggie Chaffin. He was the fifth child of fourteen. He married Johnnie M. InGlish in 1912 and she preceeded him in death on June 24, 1957, He later married Nannie Mae Epperson on Sept. 20, 1958.

Mr. Chaffin served as a deputy sheriff for Fannin County for a number of years and then served as sheriff from 1932 to 1936. He came to Gainesville in 1943 and bought the Gainesville Food Locker and managed it for several years. Later he operated the Chaffin Packing Co. He also opened the first nursing home in Gainesville. Mr. Chaffin was a member of First Christian Church.
