Oron W. Witherspoon, age 91, son of Major Leslie and Genie Neighbors Witherspoon went to be with his Lord on January 4, 1998. He received his education in both Ector and Bonham schools. In 1948, Oron was elected fire chief of the newly-organized volunteer fire department in Ector and served in that capacity for 20 years. He was also elected to the Ector School Board and served as president for 10 years.

He was a member of the Ector Baptist Church and on the building committee when the new church was built in 1955.
