Mrs. Mary Telfer, mother of Harry Telfer with whom she resided on, a farm south of Richland, was found dead in bed this Thursday morning. She had been in fairly good health and was up and visited with company during last evening. She was 72 years old Mrs. Telfer’s maiden name was Mary Abbott, and she was a sister of the late Mrs. H. E Millspaugh and mother-in-law of Ruth Sprague Telfer, a former resident of Augusta. Her husband, R. R. Telfer has been dead several years.

Mrs. Mary Telfer. widow of Robert R. Telfer passed to her heavenly home on the night of Wednesday. Dec. 23rd while sleeping. Though frail in health for many years she had seemed as well as usual at this time and had remained up until the return of her son Harry and family from Christmas exercises at the church. The family visited together before retiring. Mrs. Telfer was the daughter of the Rev. Norman and Lovina Burret Abbott and was born in Lansing. June 1. 1860. On December 2nd. 1885 she was united in marriage with Robert R. Telfer and to them two sons were born. George who died in infancy and Harry by whom she is survived. Also, a sister Mrs. Emma Abbott of Chicago, two brothers Edward I. Abbott and Louis F. Abbott of Richland and three grandchildren. Helen. Robert and George Telfer. The late Mrs. Lydia Millspaugh of Augusta was a half-sister. Mrs. Telfer attended Kalamazoo College and taught in the schools of this county. Her father Rev. Norman Abbott held the chair of mathematics in Albion College for eight years before entering the ministry. He was ordained in the M. E. church in 1845 and Mrs. Telfer’s early in life united with that church at Galesburg. Her membership was transferred to the Richland Presbyterian Church after her marriage and she was active in its work and that of the Women’s Missionary society of which she was president for 17 years. She was also a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society and had been a member of the Ladies Library for many years. Funeral service was conducted from her late home by the Rev. Edward belles Monday, Dec. 28th with burial in Prairie Home cemetery, Richland. The Galesburg Argus December 11, 1931 page 1
