The original Church of the Grey Friars at Shrewsbury was built just outside the city walls and utilized one of the city walls as part of their building. King Henry VIII closed this friary in 1540. It was eventually sold to private parties and the buildings converted to residences and businesses. But the buildings were on poor land that flooded frequently and they did not survive long.
A stained glass window called the "Jesse" window may now be in the nearby St. Mary's Church at Shrewsbury.
