Death of a Pioneer

Mrs. Lemuel Jennings died at her home in Ronald, Ionia county, January 20, 1906. Her maiden name was Abbott, and she was born in Edinburg, Saratoga county, August 1, 1836, being at the time of her death 69 years old.

After the death of her father, in 1855, she came with her mother to Michigan, and with two brothers, J.B. and Frank, settled in North Plains.

June 27, 1858, she was married to Lemuel B. Jennings, and went with him to the farm in Ronald that has been their home since.

Eleven children were born to them, seven of whom survive to mourn her loss. These are: Mary, Frank, John and May Jennings, at the homestead: Fred, of Iosco County; Hugh, of Muskegon, and Mrs. Irving Seymour, of this place. All except Fred were present at the funeral which was held January 22, Rev. A. N. Cooper, of Muir, officiating.

For forty eight years Mrs. Jennings' gentle and loving nature had comforted the afflicted, encouraged the struggling and reproved the erring. She has been a faithful and consistent member of the Disciple church for twenty years. She will be greatly missed, and the sympathy of the community goes out to the afflicted husband and family.
