She was born Jan 18, 1906, in Waterloo, the daughter of Carl and Sylvia Brody Willford. When she was two years old, the family moved to Urbana, where her father managed the Urbana telephone office. On Dec 20, 1924, she married Howard L Kelty at the home of the groom's parents near Urbana. The couple made their home on the farm next door until Mr. Kelty's death on Sept 5, 1971. She continued to live in her farm home after her husband's death, where she still enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her son and his family. She also enjoyed membership in the 21 Birthday Club, Urbana Leisure Time Club and Urbana Legion Auxiliary Unit 264.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Rita Kelty, Urbana; five grandsons, Mark (Linda) Kelty, Vinton, David (Donna) Kelty, Fairfax, Va, Brett (Lorraine) Kelty, Urbana, Shannon (Karie) Kelty, Urbana and Sean (Sue) Kelty, Center Point; a granddaughter, Lori (Lonnie) Williams, Vinton; seven great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; two sisters, Alice Kramer and Virginia Willford, both of Urbanan, and several nieces and newphews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and infant son; and five sisters, Grace in infancy, Helen Martinec, Bernice Garwood, Martha Luken and Abbie Bennett.
Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, Dec 30, 1998. Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Vinton. Burial will be at Kisling Cemetery.
