Edward Ellis was born December 17th 1870 in Reading Pennsylvania. He stood 5’ and 51/2 “, and worked for a blacksmith shop.
At 27 years old, in Reading on July 8th 1898, Edward enlisted as a Private into Company F of the U. S. Army 12th Infantry Regiment. Edward was discharged from the 12th Infantry on December 30th 1898 at Jefferson Missouri. He then transferred as a private into Company E of the 47th U.S. Army Volunteer Infantry.
Edward was part of the Spanish-American war in the Philippine Islands.
When at the age of 29, he died at sea from dysentery on October 16th 1900, while on board the transport ship, Sherman, on route from the Philippine Island.
