Martha "Peggy" Emerson, 98, passed away Nov. 6, 2001, at a Chinook nursing home of natural causes.

Memorial grave-side services were held in the Harlem Cemetery.

Peggy was born April 23, 1903, in Lair, N.D., to Fred and Sarah (Bertsch) Lux. She attended schools in North Dakota and Havre. She came to Hill County in 1914 with her family. They settled in Blaine County in 1920.

Peggy married Arthur Rasmussen on April 2, 1923, in Harlem. They lived on the Rasmussen farm south of Harlem until moving into Harlem in 1936. Rasmussen died in 1965 and she married Miles Emerson in 1968. Emerson died in 1971 and she lived in Chinook and Havre before moving to the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in 1998.

Peggy spent her winter months in California from 1940 to 1990. She enjoyed gardening and bowling.

She was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4744 and a member of the Harlem American Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Rasmussen and Donald Rasmussen, both of Havre; stepdaughter, Cora Benson of Fort Benton; sister, Ann Purdy of Mount Vernon, Wash.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five stepgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
