Rita A. Beckert, age 85 of Greenville, passed away at 6:07 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Helia Health Care in Greenville, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.
Rita Alzada, the daughter of James Henry and Sarah Alzada (Green) Smith, was born April 3, 1924 in Keyesport, Illinois. Rita grew up in the Keyesport area, attending the local schools. Rita was one of 10 children, she is the last of her generation....preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Reuben Smith, Melvin "Bill" Smith, Fred Smith, John "Bud" Smith, Gilbert "Buck" Smith, Mabel Knebel, Gladys Lamb, Cynthia Lowe and Leta Whittaker.
December 1, 1943 Rita was united in marriage to J. Orville Beckert in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1988. They had two children, both survive: Wayne O. Beckert of Greenville and Brian J. Beckert of Greenville. She was the loving grandmother of 5 and great-grandmother of 2.
Rita and Orville farmed northwest of Greenville for many years. Rita later worked for Lynn's Hardware store in Greenville for 16 years.
Mrs. Beckert was a member of the First Christian Church in Greenville and the Loyal U&I Sunday School Class.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Loyal U&I Class.
