During his active years, Mr. Harrigill was an avid boatman, out-doorsman, tracker, and hunter. In later years he derived a great deal of pleasure from his family and especially enjoyed being actively involved in the stock market numbers and real estate investments.
Mr. Harrigill was born in 1915 and became interested in the trucking industry at an early age. He secured his first U.S. mail "Star" route from the Post Office Department in the late 1900's. This business flourished into numerous routes as the years went by and he became one of the largest government mail contractors in the United States. That business continues today under the name of Harrigill Postal Service.
Within a couple of years after he moved to Brookhaven in 1940, he initiated another business under the name O.K. Welding Company, in which he became recognized nationally for his expertise in the fields of steel lubrication and manufacture of heavy duty truck bodies and related equipment. During the years of his business life in Brookhaven, Mr. Harrigill became a respected member of the business and financial communities.
From a family active Freemasonry, Mr. Harrigill was a devoted member of Wahabi Shrine. He was also a 32rd degree Scottish Rite Mason as well as a member of S.B. Stampley Masonic Lodge (F&AM), the York Rite Masonic Bodies, and the Hamburg Baptist Church. In a recent ceremony at his home, he was awarded his 50 year membership pin and certificate in the Wahabi Shrine.
