Lula Lucy Harris Hansen passed away Dec. 25, 2009, at the University of Utah Medical Center due to complications from a fall in her home in Hamer. She was born July 31, 1929, in Salem, to William and Ida Harris. She was the ninth child in a family of 11 children.

She graduated from Sugar-Salem High School and later attended Ricks College, where she met her husband, Melvin. They were married July 28, 1948, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Along with her role as homemaker, she taught kindergarten and worked as a teacher's aide at Hamer Elementary. She has enjoyed embroidery work, crocheting, quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and camping with her family. She has been actively involved in church service, including serving as ward Primary and Young Women presidents, in the stake Primary and stake Relief Society presidencies, stake family history consultant, Sunday School teacher and served as an ordinance worker for nine years in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She served on the BYU-Idaho Emeritus Board and was a member of the Hamer Lions Club for 18 years.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin of Hamer; children Janeen (Gary) Leonardson of Dillon, Mont., Dianne (Brent) Berrett of Roberts, Marie (Robert) Patterson of Heber City, Utah, Karen (Kirk) Grover of Inkom, John Hansen of Hamer, Dennis (Katie) Hansen of Blackfoot, and Scott (Karen) Hansen of Elwood, Utah; 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and sisters Zelda Lund, Opal Bailey, Winona Bean and brother Merlin Harris.

Funeral services will Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Hamer LDS church. Burial in West Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
