Daughter of George & Effie (Berry) Hankins in Miller, Missouri, they moved to the Gering area in 1916, she attended school and graduated from Gering High School in 1932. Grace and Amos Carlson were united in marriage on October 26, 1935 in Kimball. They lived on a ranch in Minatare then moved to the Lake Alice community in 1940, later moving to the Victory Hill community.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff; DOES; Eagles Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Lake Alice Happy Hour Club and the Women's Society of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Jim (Sandra) Carlson of Arlington, Texas; Nola (Duane) Thul of Weston, Oregon and Lonny (Betty) Carlson of Tucson, Arizona, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Her parents, husband Amos, her brother Elgar Hankins and sisters Marjorie Elaine Dowty and Gwen Finger all precede her in death.
